Welcome to the 10th edition of the IMISCOE Bulletin! Given the increasingly rich activities taking place in our Network, we decided to add a new Fall edition to our Bulletin, to let you know about our recent achievements and research plans for the coming months. Have a look and help us spread the word about our IMISCOE community!
The Bulletin is one of the main communication channels of IMISCOE with its 69 Member Institutes, the individual members of our research network and the wider community interested in our activities. It is built around contributions from the IMISCOE External Affairs Committee (EAC) and the Network Office based at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University of Liège.
The Bulletin allows us to showcase the incredibly rich research activities taking place in our Network, thanks to the joint efforts of the IMISCOE Network Office, the Board of Directors, the Executive Board, all IMISCOE Standing and Executive Committees, our community of PhD students, and the individual members of IMISCOE who constantly dedicate their time and ideas to support the events and collaborative projects taking place in our research network.
This edition of the Bulletin starts with an editorial written by Jacques Ramirez Gallegos, who reflects on the rich and solid migration knowledge produced by scholars from Latin America. We also took this opportunity to inform you about the exciting IMISCOE conferences that we are currently planning for 2025! So don’t miss the section regarding our next Spring Conference (organised by the University for Continuing Education Krems on the topic of "The Regularity of Irregularity: Rethinking Migration Paradigms") and the 2025 Annual Conference (organized by the Institut Convergences Migrations on the important theme of “Decentering Migration Studies”). For this Bulletin, we also sat down with Amandine Desille and Karolina Nikielska-Sekuła, who shared their insights regarding the organization of the 2025 IMISCOE PhD School on “Developing a sensory methodology in migration studies”.
Since our last Bulletin, the IMISCOE Standing Committees have been incredibly active! You can now more read about their recent events and future plans for this academic year in the special section that we dedicated to Standing Committees. Moreover, this edition also includes a note from Franck Düvell about the aims of our newly created Standing Committee on Forced Migration and Refugees, as well as our interview with Tineke Fokkema and Alistair Hunter regarding the newly revised Standing Committee on Families, Welfare, Care and the Life Course.
As our IMISCOE community continues to grow, for this Bulletin we also interviewed Sonja Novak Lukanović about the first IMISCOE Member Institute in Slovenia- the Institute for Ethnic Studies (IES), which we recently had the pleasure to welcome in our research network. We also recommend you to read the note by Patrick Nyheim Schjølberg about the 13 new members of our fourth cohort of the IMISCOE PhD Academy, as well as the updates from by Billie Martiniello, Agnese Pacciardi, and Silvia Talavera Lodos about the recent and future events organised by the wonderful team coordinating the IMISCOE PhD Network.
Last but not least, this issue of the Bulletin also features our recent publications in the IMISCOE’s book series with Springer, which includes invaluable contributions on diverse facets of international migration. Furthermore, we also sat down with Loredana Marchi who shared with us from her extensive experience with a specific migration museum- the MigratieMuseumMigration (MMM) located in Brussels.
On behalf of IMISCOE’s Network Office and External Affairs Committee, we would like to thank all of the contributors of this issue of the Bulletin! We are extremely grateful to all of you in the IMISCOE Network for your support and contribution to our international and interdisciplinary network!
We wish you a pleasant read and invite you to share this Bulletin widely to help us spread the word about our IMISCOE community.
